A remote control car key is incredibly useful - until it stops working. Maybe the buttons no longer respond, the housing is cracked, or your car simply won't open. But does that immediately mean you have to have a completely new key made? Fortunately, no.
In this blog we explain what the options are for repair, which parts you can replace, and when it is smart to get help. Often repair is easier (and cheaper) than you think.
What can go wrong with a remote control key?
A remote control car key consists of several parts: a physical key blade, a plastic housing, a circuit board with electronics, push buttons and a battery. Common problems are:
-The buttons do not respond or work poorly
-The housing is cracked, worn or cracked
-The battery is dead or not making contact
-The circuit board is loose or damaged
-The folding key no longer closes properly or does not collapse.
In many of these cases, you can replace parts or have the key repaired without needing a completely new key.
Repair or replacement: what are your options?
1.Key housing replacement
Is only the outside damaged or are the push buttons worn? Then you can easily order a yourself. You transfer the original circuit board and key blade into the new housing. This is often done in a few minutes and saves you a lot of money compared to a new key.
2. New push buttons or circuit board
If the buttons no longer respond properly, but the circuit board is still intact, it is usually sufficient to replace only the housing or push buttons. In some cases, a minor repair or re-soldering is required on the circuit board. Of course, we can perform this for you in our workshop. Want to know more? Check out our page on .
