No that is not necessary, you can have a good working key housing again without technical knowledge.
What do you need to do?
- Step 1. Open your existing key, remove the electronics and immobilizer and place them in the new housing. Close the housing.
- Step 2. Transfer the pointed key blade with notch to the new housing or have it copied/sharpened at a locksmith.
- Step 3. That's all, you now have a functioning key housing again.

beard key insert has size discrepancies with original2022-03-11Product looks good, however I have transferred the original beard key part into the new key holder.There is a slight difference in sizing which makes the folding key turn a bit heavier.I solved it by transferring the original keybled into the new folding key.You can remove the bled by tapping out the steel spring pin with a thin pin and then reinsert the original bled into the new folding key. Now it works fine.

I was able to solve my problem of worn buttons and chrome trim by transferring those parts to my old key housing, but if you really need the housing, this won't really help you unfortunately....
