This Mazda compatible 3-button smartcard with panic button is ideal to replace your damaged or defective smartcard. Among others, the smartcard is suitable for Mazda 5, Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-7, Mazda CX-9 and Mazda RX-8.

No that is not necessary, you can have a new properly functioning smartcard/ without technical knowledge.
What do you need to do?
Step 1. Open your existing smart card, remove the electronics and insert them into the new smart card housing and close the smart card.
Step 2. Transfer the key bit to the new smart card.
Step 3. That's all, you now have a properly working smart card again.
