How do I replace the ignition key with transponder?
You can have a properly functioning ignition key again without technical knowledge.
What do you need to do?
Choose between replacing your damaged/defective key or an (extra) spare key:
To replace your damaged or defective ignition key with transponder:
- Open your existing ignition key, remove the transponder/immobilizer and transfer it to the new ignition key. Close the housing.
- Transfer the key blade (the part that goes into your ignition switch) to the new key housing. You can also choose to have the key sharpened (copied) by a locksmith.
- That's all, you now have a working ignition key again.
An (extra) spare key:
- Take your original key and the new key with you to the locksmith/chop shop.
- Have the immobilizer/transponder (ID46) copied. The immobilizer allows your car to start.
- Have the key copied by the locksmith/hack bar.
- That's all, you now have an (extra) spare key.
