No that is not necessary, you can have a properly working key housing again without technical knowledge.

What do you need to do?

Step 1. Open your existing key, take out the electronics and immobilizer and place them in the new folding key housing.
Step 2. Transfer the key blade (the part that goes into your ignition) to the new housing. You can also choose to have the key sharpened (copied) by a locksmith. Close the housing.
Step 3. That's all - you now have a functioning key housing again.
