No it is not necessary, you can have a properly working key housing again without technical knowledge.

What do you need to do?

Step 1. Open your existing key, remove the electronics and immobilizer and insert it into the new folding key housing.
Step 2. Transfer the key blade (the part that goes into your ignition switch) to the new housing. You can also have the key sharpened (copied) by a locksmith. Close the housing.
Step 3. Done - you now have a functioning key housing again.
